Be a semi scripted reality star...

Or, just carry your stuff like one.
Putting her "famous for nothing" notoriety to good use, "sort of" reality personality Lauren Conrad is out to prove that all she really ever wanted was to be a fashion designer. There is the Lauren Conrad line of clothing, mostly little dresses (just like Lauren and her friends wear on TV!) and now, a line of handbags under the Lauren Conrad for Linea Pelle label.

Now, I loved LC on Laguna Beach, and I am addicted to The Hills (though I'm more of a Whitney fan these days) but I'd be hard pressed to find a reason to buy these bags. I mean, Lauren always looks great, but her style isn't all that inspired, and it shows in the bags.

It doesn't look like it, but this is the tote pictured above...it looks better off the shoulder...which isn't saying much, because it looks kind of average. Like a basic anybag with a cute little L zipper pull.
Other styles don't fare much better.

A clutch, with a gold chain hung across the front is again, inoffensive, but not really something as fresh as you'd expect from someone being billed as a real-girl style icon. The back has a zipper compartment, what better place to hang the signature L?

I will give props to this adorable coin purse. What it lacks in originality, it makes up for in cuteness (especially if your name is Lauren, or Laverne...hey my last name starts with an L...) I do like the simplicity, and at $45, it is reasonably priced.

Pricing is actually where this collection does make sense. The bags have a similar look to lines like Juicy Couture, and are probably aimed at the same demographic, 16 going on 30, but at a much more reasonable price point. The tote is $350, the clutch is $145, and the coin purse, as mentioned is $45. The colors, black, olive, and a dark brown are, depending on your expectations, boring, or versatile, and the quality, since underneath the hype, these are Linea Pelle, should be very good for the price. Currently, the bags are exclusively sold through Linea Pelle, where you can also see more photos of Lauren and her bags as well as color swatches.
I'm most interested to see if these are what Lauren carries on the show, in effect turning it into a 30 minute infomercial for something other than it's stars. I have little doubt that LC and her friends will turn up in her own label, after all, they seem less designed as styled based on stuff they like already, but will she trade in the designer bags she usually carries, like her Chanel tote, for a Lauren Conrad for Linea Pelle?
The new season of The Hills starts March 24th on MTV.

you would think lauren could throw in crimson or something a bit more colorful in her line though.. and if the demographics are younger, she really should have put a fresh color in her line.
